Uttarakhand was formed in 09 Nov 2000 as twenty seventh state of India. Not only It is known for its natural beauty but also it is proceeding ahead quickly day by day since its establishment. But the state could not be secure from HIV/AIDS. The reason is that it is based upon Money Order Economy. NACO had established Uttarakhand State AIDS Control Society in 2001 perceiving this severe fact. Society is doing its arduous efforts for making the state HIV/AIDS free through institutional efforts of its divisions.

The goal and the objectives of the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP- III) are to halt and reverse the epidemic in the state through integration of prevention, care, treatment and support programs. Its four components are:

A) Increasing the number of persons living with HIV/AIDS receiving care and treatment.

B) Prevention of new infections in high-risk groups through saturation of coverage of high risk groups with Targeted Interventions (TI). Scaled up interventions in other vulnerable populations.

C)Strengthening the infrastructure, systems and human resources in prevention and treatment programs at the district, state levels.

D)Establishing a state wide strategic planning, programme management, monitoring and evaluation system.
